Action Research Template

This week has been a little hectic trying to figure out the expectation for the assignment. After reading both texts, I developed my action research plan using the Tool 7.1 Action Planning Template. I plan to meet next week with my administrators and the counselor to review my plan. I look forward to reading your comments.

The copy and paste format is a little different from Microsoft Word 2013.

  1. Danelle, looks like you've got a pretty solid plan. I think that this research could be a huge asset to your school. One thing that confused me a bit though. On the very last step you have presenting data to the church congregation. I didn't see anything about your church before that last step or in your goal so I didn't really understand. Are you presenting your data to them as well as your school? Regardless, it looks like you've got your plan pretty well laid out. Good luck!

  2. I agree with Ryan. This looks good. You might want to add the church as part of your resources. I'm glad to see that you extended this into the beginning of next school year as well.

  3. How are the mentors going to work with the students? How are they selected to mentor particular students? I look forward to seeing you research. Many of my students need that extra person to care and show concern over them and I feel would certainly benefit from having a mentor.

  5. It looks like you plan on collecting data next year, will the mentors continue to see the same students or will new students be introduced to the program? If they are changing groups, it might be interesting to survey all involved prior to the programs start date, just to see the change in responses and attitudes. If you find that there are favorable results, you might consider using your data to convince other individuals/organizations to become mentors. Your findings should be interesting and thoughtful, I look forward to learning more!

  6. I agree with Ryan and Tracey with the church. Are you getting mentors from the church? I also agree with Mariellen, but remember that you need to get site supervisor and parent permission to survey kids. I love our mentors. They really work hard with our kids on different needs. One question...what is Skyward? I have never heard of it before.

  7. Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to make revisions based on suggestions and from the book. I will comment on your blogs. A church in our community contacted the Big Brother Big Sister Program to begin the mentoring program. The Big Brother Big Sister Program does the matching (student/adult mentor). The counselor recruits the students. Currently, there are about 10-12 students involved with mentors from grades K-5. The church does want to recruit more mentors, therefore that's where my research comes into play. I hope to find positive data to present to the church to recruit. I'm also going to present to the staff about the possibility of a student/teacher mentoring program. The mentors will continue to mentor the same students as long as they attend our campus. The goal is to follow the student for multiple years. Skyward is our student data system, (student information, grade book, etc.)I realized after posting my draft, that I had a few holes in my draft. I'm going to work on it and re-post. Only 2 more weeks of EDLD 5301, let's go get it!

  8. Mentorships are a fantastic idea! However, you are looking at huge deal of approvals toget through. The parents I am sure would want a background check on the mentors. The school would also have liability in the mentorships, as you are employed by them and the students are enrolled there. It is a great idea, but WOW! I am interested in reading your revisions...

  9. Very concise! I like how to the point your plan is...Maybe I should reduce mine, now...hmmm! I like your topic, though. I know that in our district, we have "pals" who come from the high school and mentor students at the junior high. I noticed that you had "gather data from other schools who have mentoring programs". If I can help you in this area, let me know. I am not 100% sure on exactly what the "pals" do, but I can certainly get information for you if you would benefit.. Let me know!

  10. David, the mentor program is already up and running. All of the mentors have been approved through extensive background checks. For the students to participate, parent permission is required. There are about 12 students currently in the program but we want to recruit more mentors to address more students.
